The Great Impola Work Day (Genesee Project #7)

The house on a clear day!

When it you need work done on your home, it just doesn’t get any better than the Impola family. Not just because they are all experts in home-building (just about everyone in the family is a general contractor)-though that’s obviously enormously helpful. No, what really makes the Impola family so great to work with is that they’re so cohesive. They like being with each other. When you’re with them, they make you want to work harder. Impolas naturally make a work-day a memorable day. And that’s just what this was- a day we’ll be remembering fondly for a long time.

On a bright & clear day (but crisp- when it started to get dark, it got cold!), much like the ones we’ve been having all week, ~20 Impolas (10 adults, 6 kids, & 3 young ones) got together to work on the Genesee House. Almost 100 hours worth of work was done, and a lot got finished. More importantly, it was a great time with family.

Here’s a rundown, with pictures, of our several Projects for the Day

Project #1: Digging out Two Window Wells

(Participants: Isaac, Kent, Laura, Logan, Heidi, Jayce, Kent)

#3) Building a Concrete Wall

(Isaac, Heidi, Tim, Logan, Kent, Jayce, Matt, Laura,  Cynthia)

This was the funnest one. We had 4 huge piles of concrete that had been used to form the basement windows. We used it to make a wall in the backyard that supports another, existing wall. I (Tim) worked with all the kids to carry cinder blocks over to construct the wall.

#5) Installing the Two main Windows in the Front

Uncle Greg, Dad Impola, Mom Impola

the two largest windows were installed in the front of the house. Because the other windows were so old, new windows that were up to standard requirements were a prerequesite for our loan.

#6) Taking to the Dump, 2 months’ worth of Scrap
