Our family began practicing Ash Wednesday a number of years ago. Now it has become commonplace- not just because it’s a part of our church’s practice, but primarily because it brings us back into communion with God.
‘From dust you were made, to dust all return.’ I suppose it might strike someone as morose to dwell on death like that. But, as we’ve been reminded a few times already this year, life is fragile. We don’t know what’s around the corner; none of us do. Sickness, heart-ache, job loss, etc.
And, as always, death is life’s great change agent. There is nothing like focusing on the fragility of life to make you appreciate what’s important, and to be thankful for how much you already have.
Well said Tim! Especially today…
Hi Missi!- yeah, you definitely read my/our mind here. I didn’t want to get into the particulars, but needless to say this was a memorable Ash Wednesday for us.
